Common questions

New to C-arms? Start here.

What is a C-arm?

A C-arm is a mobile X-ray system named for its curved arm, which holds the X-ray source on one end and the detector on the other. It takes live X-ray video (fluoroscopy) during a procedure, so a physician can guide a needle, implant, or catheter in real time. You'll find them in operating rooms, surgery centers, and pain management and vascular clinics.

What's the difference between a compact 2-in-1 and a two-piece C-arm?

A two-piece system, like the Persona C and Persona C HR, pairs the C-arm with a separate cart for the monitors. That gives you bigger screens you can place anywhere in the room. A compact 2-in-1, like the Persona CS, mounts the monitor on the C-arm itself, so there's one unit to move and park. Smaller rooms usually favor the 2-in-1.

Is the FDR Cross a C-arm or an X-ray machine?

Both. It runs live fluoroscopy like any C-arm, and its detector can be removed for static digital X-rays at the bedside or on the table. It runs on a battery for up to 8 hours, which makes it easy to share between rooms.

How long does it take to get one installed?

A mobile C-arm typically needs a few weeks for delivery and applications training. Mobile C-arms don't need the construction a fixed room does, but your state may require registration and shielding review first. Ask us what's realistic for your timeline.

Do we need to register it with the state?

Most states require X-ray equipment to be registered with the state radiation control program, and rules vary. Look up your state's agency and requirements on our state radiation regulations map.

Can we finance it or write it off this year?

Yes to both, in most cases. We offer financing options, and qualifying equipment placed in service by December 31 may be deductible under Section 179. Our Section 179 calculator estimates the after-tax cost. Confirm with your CPA.

What about the C-arm we have now?

We buy used imaging equipment. Tell us what you're running and we'll make an offer.
