Supria True64 vs. Supria Plus: Choosing the Right CT System

Fujifilm offers two CT systems in the compact community hospital and outpatient imaging segment: the Supria Plus and the Supria True64. Both occupy similar space, share a family resemblance in design, and target similar facilities. The question of which one is right requires understanding what the True64 actually adds — and whether those additions matter for your specific clinical program.
The Shared Foundation
Both the Supria Plus and Supria True64 use a three-module design — gantry, patient table, and image processor cabinet — that fits in a minimum 265-square-foot scan room. Both feature a 75 cm gantry aperture, a 180 cm scannable table range, and a 500-pound weight capacity. Both include Intelli EC 3D automatic exposure control, HiMAR metal artifact reduction, Eco Mode power reduction, and the Sentinel remote service platform backed by a 99 percent uptime guarantee. The base clinical platform and patient experience are essentially the same.
What "True64" Actually Means
The naming distinction is important to understand. The Supria Plus is a 16-slice scanner — it has 16 detector rows and acquires 16 slices per rotation, with optional Fine Recon software providing 32-slice equivalent reconstruction from the 16-slice dataset. The Supria True64 has 64 discrete detector rows and 64 discrete electronics channels, acquiring genuine 64-slice data per rotation.
This distinction matters because some CT systems marketed as "64-slice" only have 32 detector rows and achieve 64-slice output through a software interpolation or flying focal spot technique, which requires reducing coverage to 20mm or less for thin-slice imaging. The Supria True64 does not make this compromise: it provides genuine thin 0.625mm slices at both 20mm and 40mm detector coverage. The difference shows in sharpness of multiplanar reconstructions and CT angiography quality, where thin-slice acquisition is directly related to vessel delineation.
Intelli IP and Iterative Reconstruction
The Supria True64 includes Fujifilm's Intelli IP iterative reconstruction, which operates in both projection space and image space to suppress pixel noise while preserving structural detail. Intelli IP provides more rapid reconstruction and faster workflow compared to the iterative approaches on the Supria Plus, allowing image review to begin sooner after acquisition completion.
The Supria True64's 128-slice reconstruction capability (Fine Recon) produces 128-slice equivalent datasets from the 64-slice acquisition, enabling enhanced MPR image clarity for multiplanar analysis and CT angiography post-processing. For practices performing significant volumes of CTA, the combination of true 64-slice thin acquisition and 128-slice reconstruction capability provides a meaningful image quality step up.
Clinical Applications and the Decision
The Supria Plus covers the standard outpatient CT application set comprehensively: head, chest, abdomen, pelvis, spine, extremities, and standard CT angiography. For facilities where the volume is primarily routine cross-sectional imaging without a significant CTA or complex cardiac component, the Supria Plus delivers excellent cost-effective performance.
The Supria True64 becomes the better choice when thin-slice CT angiography is a significant part of the practice, when orthopedic and trauma imaging requiring high-resolution MPR is common, when the facility is performing calcium scoring (which requires ECG gating available as an option on the True64), or when the program is growing and the facility wants to avoid an upgrade decision within a few years as clinical complexity increases.
Bottom Line: The Supria Plus is the right choice for standard outpatient cross-sectional CT with budget sensitivity. The Supria True64 is the right choice when thin-slice CTA quality, genuine 64-slice imaging without coverage compromise, and ECG gating for cardiac applications are clinical requirements. Both are backed by the same Fujifilm support infrastructure. The upgrade investment buys real clinical capability, not just a marketing number.
