The System Architecture

SpeedLink: Automated Technique and Collimation

SpeedLink creates a software map of the imaging room — the positions of the tube, detector, and table — and uses this spatial awareness to automatically apply the correct technique factors and automatic collimation for the projection being performed.
When the technologist positions the tube for a PA chest, SpeedLink recognizes the tube position, detector orientation, and SID (source-to-image distance), and automatically applies the stored technique for that projection. Automatic collimation sets the field boundaries to match the detector size for the selected projection without manual blade adjustment. The result is reduced setup time per exam, more consistent technique across operators, and elimination of the technique errors that occur when a busy technologist manually selects settings under time pressure.
For high-volume DR rooms where the same projections are performed repeatedly throughout the day, SpeedLink provides a measurable workflow acceleration — studies of automated technique systems in digital radiography have documented 15 to 30 percent reductions in room time per exam, which directly translates to patient throughput.
FDX Console and Image Management
The FDX Console is the acquisition workstation for the FSx system, providing image review, post-processing, and DICOM routing in a unified interface. The console presents acquired images immediately after exposure with automated image quality indicators and the ability to perform electronic collimation correction (removing the dark borders from under-collimated exposures without radiation), rotation, and enhancement without repeated exposures.
The patented ISS (Image Storage System) retains the full image acquisition history on the system, enabling retrieval of prior images for comparison without accessing the hospital PACS — useful for rapid side-by-side comparison during repeat imaging or when the network is temporarily unavailable. A 800-pound table weight limit ensures the system accommodates bariatric patients without special accommodation.
Optional Vertical Auto-Tracking
The vertical auto-tracking option motorizes the tube column height adjustment to follow a preset SID and centering height for defined projections. Combined with SpeedLink's automated technique and collimation, vertical auto-tracking reduces the number of manual adjustments required to set up each projection. For technologists managing high volumes of routine exams — chest, spine, extremity series — the combined automation reduces physical setup workload and allows greater focus on patient positioning.
